The following are official public holidays in Colombia:
January 1 - Año Nuevo (New Year's Day).
January 6* - Día de los Reyes Magos (Epiphany).
March 19* - Día de San José (Saint Joseph's Day). Fathers Day.
Variable March or April - Jueves Santo (Maundy Thursday) and Viernes Santo (Good Friday) The
Thursday and Friday before Easter Sunday.
May 1 - Primero de Mayo (Labor Day).
Six weeks and a day after Easter Sunday - Ascensión (Ascension of Jesus).
Observed the Monday nine weeks and a day after Easter Sunday - Corpus Christi.
Observed the Monday ten weeks and a day after Easter Sunday - Sagrado Corazón (Sacred Heart).
June 29* - San Pedro y San Pablo (Saint Peter and Saint Paul).
July 20 - Independence Day.
August 7 - Battle of Boyacá.
August 15* - La Asunción (Assumption of Mary).
October 12* - Día de la Raza (Columbus Day).
November 1* - All Saints’ Day.
November 11* - Independence of Cartagena.
December 8 - La Inmaculada Concepción (Immaculate Conception).
December 25 - Navidad (Christmas Day).
Note: * Movable holiday: when they do not fall on a Monday, these holidays are observed the following Monday.
Most cities have additional local holidays and festivals.
The busiest seasons are from December 1 to January 20. Easter week. June 25th to July 12th. (approximate). And a week before Colombus Day in October.
During these times school children are on break and Colombians travel. Long weekends are usually busy as well. School breaks occur at 2 different times of the year depending on the type of school.
During the height of the school breaks accommodations become hard to find and can be double the off season rates. Cost of travel also increases during holidays.
